EVENT DAY

Welcome to the Karoo, grab a beer or something to drink and collect your goody bag. During registration, you will receive your tour package with your number, a ride guide and some other goodies. Riders must please remember to present some sort of photo identification document (driver’s license, passport or ID book) as proof of identity. If a rider has not registered, they will not be allowed to start.

You’re welcome to arrive from Friday 15:00 onwards.

ACCOMMODATION

Complimentary tented accommodation is included in you entry but should you wish to upgrade, there are limited luxury tents as well as guest farm accommodation available. *All accommodation options are available from Friday 21 February.

Complimentary tented accommodation for 2 nights. Each rider receives a tent and single mattress erected in advance. Additional mattresses can be booked online for supporters should you like to share a tent. There are permanent shower and toilet facilities at the venue. *Please note: bring your own pillow and sleeping bag.

We have luxury tented accommodation available for riders who would like to upgrade from their standard Tour tents.

FOOD & BEVERAGES

Karoo hospitality truly shows in the food. Expect Karoo lamb braai, freshly baked farm bread, condensedmilk coffee at breakfast to potatoes and koeksisters at the water points. Not to mention craft beer on tap for the weekend!

*Special dietary requirements: Our food are sourced and made by the local community and thus it’s difficult to cater for individual requirements but send us an email to info@lormarendurance.co.za and we can look into how we can assist.

Five well stocked water points along the route will supply you with energy drinks, cold water, fruit, mini potatoes, roosterkoekies and KOEKSISTERS. The biggest water point will be situated in the village of Nieu Bethesda featuring craft beer. Please check the route section for exact location of water points.

Supporter meal tickets can be pre booked online @R750pp & kids U/12 R450 are welcome to join at no extra cost but have to be booked online. Meal ticket includes the following:

Condensedmilk coffee and tea available at breakfast. Water, alcoholic and soft drinks will be on sale from the bar at the Main Building.

Water are supplied for the water points and consumption during each stage. All tap water in our tour village is perfectly safe for drinking, and it is recommended that riders utilise our supply of drinking water.

SUPPORT AND SERVICES

It is essential that riders start the event with a well serviced and prepared bicycle. We have backup support en route should you not be able to ride any further as well as medical staff to assist incase you sustain an injury.

It is advisable that you carry tubes, a master link and a replaceable dropout (remember it is unique to every bike) with you. There’s backup support should you not be able to ride any further.

Trained medical personnel will be on the route to handle any emergencies as well as at the finish. More serious cases will be transferred to a local hospital, where a more comprehensive service is available. Please remember to carry the details of your medical insurance with, in case of hospitalisation.

Prize giving

At Ride The Karoo you can be sure to expect an interesting prize giving. The following categories can expect prizes like Hope on Hopkins Gin, Deetlefs Wine and maybe a weekend away for two ;-). For the more serious riders we will also have very unique Karoo trophies and some great prizes.

  • Berg Skilpad (Last rider in)

SUPPORTERS AND KIDDIES ZONE

We encourage family and friends to come and support their riders and to share the experience. We have loads of interesting activities for them to enjoy! The 80km category is very popular amongst family and friends interested in doing shorter distances. Supporter meal tickets can be pre booked online @R750 pp for adults and R450 pp for kids 3-12 years (kids u/3 no charge) which includes all event meals.

*Please note we only have 30 supporter tickets available so make sure to book your supporters well in advance.

All riders will have the option to leave their kids (older than 3 – basically off nappies) while they ride! The kids will have various entertainment activities.

R300 per child for the weekend! The fees will go to Middelburg High School. You have to pre-book this with your entry!

Additional tents and mattresses can be booked online for family and supporters at R380 per tent and R150 per mattress for the weekend (Friday & Saturday night). Supporters are also welcome to share any luxury tents and guest farm accommodation with their riders.

Supporters are welcome to follow the map to the designated water points en route and cheer family and friends passing by. Maps are available at registration.
